Our Lenten Sacrifices

Simon of Cyrene helps carry the cross

Helping Each Other Carry Our Crosses

Lent is a time of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving in preparation for Easter. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, which is February 17 this year. Most Catholics participate in the practice of lent by offering a regular sacrifice, or “giving something up.” Did you know that you can offer your sacrifices for an intention? Like Simon, who helped Jesus carry his cross, when we offer sacrifices for others, we help them carry their crosses. We support our spiritual brothers and sisters in their needs and take on a greater meaning to our sacrifice. This year, consider offering your lenten sacrifices for the needs of our parishioners and offering your intentions so that others can sacrifice for them. Stop by the display in the back of church or participate online. In either place, you can post an intention or offer a sacrifice for another’s intention. Stop by each week during lent!
