Earlier this week, the world woke up with news concerning the Holy Father and comments he made during a released documentary on the subject of same-sex attracted persons and civil unions. Many experienced confusion concerning his comments, including myself. I ran across the statement from our Bishop that helps greatly and I thought I would quote from him:
“I am aware that Pope Francis is being reported as making comments in a documentary (filmed last year) which have caused a great deal of confusion among Catholic faithful throughout the world. I leave all needed clarification of these comments and what was meant to the Holy Father and the Vatican. Clearly, Church teachings on marriage and human sexuality, based on the natural law, remain unchanged and Church doctrine is not developed through quotations from films. The universal truths, as beautifully articulated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church are just that, the same yesterday, today, and until the end of time. Those teachings, as the Holy Father would rightly point out, are deeply loving and respectful to all of God’s children.”
The actual teaching on this subject can be found in the Catechism #2358. Hopefully, this will help everyone to understand what the church teaching is.
Have a blessed week.
