Put Your Faith in Action by Joining the Society of St. Vincent de Paul
“Then He said to his disciples, “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.” (Matthew 9:37-38)
In a time of pandemic, economic strain, and racial division, the world seeks the face of Christ. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul tries to answer that call by providing assistance to our brothers and sisters in need. Our charism is to preach the Good News to the poor, primarily by works of charity. To give just a few examples, we go on home visits to help area families obtain furniture, we organize food drives, and we purchase school supplies for children at the beginning of the school year.
We in the Verona conference of St. Vincent de Paul ask you to prayerfully consider joining us. This is a critical time for our conference. We expect requests for assistance to increase in the coming months, and many of our members are not able to participate in the full range of activities because of restrictions relating to COVID-19.
Looking to the future, the existence of our conference depends on a new generation of members taking up the torch from our veteran members. We need new ideas for how to serve our neighbors in the Verona and larger Madison communities, and we need new members to put those ideas into action.
If you’re curious about the Vincentian charism and what it’s like to be a Society member, we invite you to attend our next conference meeting on Saturday, July 11, at 9:00 A.M. in the parish center. If you can’t make that meeting, please contact conference president Teri Cobb at email@example.com or call her at 608-514-2295. We’d love to answer your questions and get to know you!
