Knights of Columbus June Newsletter

Greetings Brother Knights,

Grand Knight’s Report

We will have installation of Officers for the 2017-2018 Fraternal Year at our Council meeting June 15th. We will begin the evening with brats and hot dogs at 6:30. This will be followed by installation and then our regular meeting.

Thank you to the Knights for their service this past year and those that have offered to continue in their positions or stepping forward to take an open position for the coming Fraternal year.

Thank you to those that helped out at our Hometown Days Parade Brat Stands this past Sunday. Due to everyone’s efforts we were able to raise $538.00, after all expenses for our charity account.

For those that do not know fellow Knight Mickey Johnson sadly lost his Grandson to a sudden illness recently. I would ask that we all keep him and his family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Father Vernon is currently also facing some challenges. He has received a new assignment from the Bishop and will be moving to St. Clement Parish, Lancaster, WI. His father is also undergoing back surgery and so he will be going home to be with his family during this time. Let us all keep him and his family in our prayers.

We will again be having our July Council meeting at Tom Kretchman’s airfield on July 20th. Please mark your calendars. We will also have a short meeting. We will have hamburgers, brats and hot dogs and will begin serving at 6:00 p.m. and all food and drinks will be provided. If you have special dietary requirements we would ask that you bring what you need. ALL FAMILY MEMBERS ARE INVITED TO ATTEND so I hope to see many of you there to enjoy good food and friendship. I would also ask that you call or email me if you are planning to attend and how many family members will be joining you, so that we can make sure that we have enough food for everyone. Also, if you need a ride or directions contact me by email or phone.

We are still looking for 2 more new members to make Star Council by the end of June. If you know of anyone that may be interested in joining our council please myself or Mark Heyde.

Program Director’s Report

Fellow Knights,

I hope everyone is starting to really enjoy the summer weather and happy the April and May rains are ebbing down.

Thanks to all the Knights that volunteered for the BPNN 1st Saturday Breakfast. Your time and efforts are surely appreciated by the BPNN staff. The Flags for Food also was very successful with over 200 donors. We have been advised that they are currently up to 230 flags for the July 4th holiday, so if you can help it would be greatly appreciated. They are expecting to need more help, so if you are interested in volunteering please contact Kim Pederson.

This year we also had a number of Knights volunteer at Brat Fest to grill brats! Chances are if you had a brat at the festival it was not cooked by a fellow Knight, but we were there nonetheless. It was a great experience; hopefully we can have more Knights sign up next year! Special thanks to Knight Clyde Hellenbrand for coordinating this effort.

Although I was not able to attend, a big thank you goes out to all the volunteers for the Verona Hometown Days brat stands on June 4th. I hope the weather cooperated and we generated a lot of activity.

Corporate Communion is coming again and will be held on Father’s Day at the 9:00 Mass. Knights and their families are encouraged to sit together on the right hand side of the Church (as you face the altar) near the front. It is a nice way for us to be visible to the Parish and encourage others to join our ranks! If you have a Knights shirt, please wear it too!

Wedding Vow Renewal – On Father’s Day weekend all couples will be encouraged to renew their wedding vows. This will be done at all Masses. What a great time and way to celebrate the sanctity of marriage!

Unfortunately Father Vernon will be leaving us for another assignment and we will be having a party for him on June 25th from 12:30- 3:30 on the St Andrew Parish grounds. We have a sign-up sheet for volunteers for the beer tent. Please check it to see if any spots need your attention. Please don’t hesitate to take part. We should also not forget that Father William will surely need help on packing and moving.

Fellow Knights we must not forget that the First Friday Adoration still need Knights of Columbus to be involved. The hours are 6-7 PM and 7-8PM. Please take some time to be a part of the Eucharistic Adoration.

Thank you to everyone who has diligently logged their volunteer hours. This year was a big change to our approach. Starting in July we will be taking a hybrid approach to better support our council. For any Knights activities that you sign in for, we will log your hours. Examples (pancake b-fast, Brat Fest, Hometown Day, KC meetings, etc.) We still ask that Knights log all other service hours using the below link. Don’t forget to log all service hours, even those that aren’t specifically Knight Activities.
This is the link to enter in your internet browser and it takes you directly to the webpage to enter your hours.

Please keep in mind the Mallards game on August 12th. For those that bought tickets please give the ticket money to Knight Leo Warren.

Respectfully Submitted,
Knight Tony Grant – Program Director
